Bloating
A tight, distended, heavy abdomen — frequently reported in IBS, and closely linked to eating pace, meal size, gut sensitivity and stress.
Why it happens
Bloating is a mix of real gas volume and heightened sensitivity to it. Large meals, rapid eating, irregular timing and a tense abdominal wall all contribute, and a stressful day can make a normal meal feel unmanageable.
What eases it
Smaller and more frequent meals, slow eating, a gentle walk afterwards, breathing practice to release abdominal tension, and identifying the two or three specific foods that repeat as triggers for you rather than cutting broadly.

This page is general wellness education, not a diagnosis. Persistent, severe or new symptoms — and warning signs such as blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, fever, repeated vomiting or anaemia — need a qualified healthcare professional. Our guidance works alongside your doctor's care, never in place of it.
Each condition page clearly states that diagnosis and medical treatment require the advice of a qualified healthcare professional.
