Acidity
Burning in the upper abdomen or chest, sour belching and discomfort after meals — often tied to meal timing, portion size and the gap between dinner and sleep.
Common triggers
Long gaps between meals followed by a heavy meal, late dinners, lying down soon after eating, very spicy or very oily food, excess tea or coffee on an empty stomach, smoking, and ongoing stress.
Practical changes
Eat smaller meals at regular intervals; finish dinner two to three hours before sleeping; sit upright after eating; and reduce stimulants taken on an empty stomach. Persistent or severe symptoms, difficulty swallowing or weight loss need medical assessment rather than lifestyle change alone.
Please note
This page is general wellness education, not a diagnosis. Persistent, severe or new symptoms — and warning signs such as blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, fever, repeated vomiting or anaemia — need a qualified healthcare professional. Our guidance works alongside your doctor's care, never in place of it.
Each condition page clearly states that diagnosis and medical treatment require the advice of a qualified healthcare professional.
